This course will enable participants to improve their conversational skillsWho is Conversational Skills aimed at?
include Social Workers, Assessment and Review Coordinators, Support Workers, Managers, Wellbeing Advisors, and Best Interest Assessors. Other staff may attend from specialist service improvement and professional practice teams and staff from partner agencies such as Health. People supported by the workforce include older people or those living with disability or physical or mental illness. Service areas accessing the training would be Access, Localities, Mental Health, Safeguarding and Specialist Services.Course Length

By the end of the course deleagtes will be able to:-
- Explain what is meant by professional curiosity and its importance in social work/care practice.
- Explain what is meant by disguised compliance and how to recognise it.
- Explain the barriers to professional curiosity and how to overcome.
- Develop and apply listening, questioning, and critical reflection skills to explore what is happening.
- Develop an ability to challenge ones’ own assumptions, enquire more deeply, not accept things at face value and check information received.
- Explain the importance of communication and information sharing for good multi-agency working.
- Explain how to handle difficult conversations with carers or professionals.
