Overview
This course is mandatory for newly qualified social workers and is also suitable for those working in children’s services who may be working with families where physical abuse is an issue. The aim of this course is to enable participants to gain a greater understanding of how physical abuse affects children and young people and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to intervene effectively.Who is Child Physical Abuse aimed at?

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-
- Demonstrate knowledge of the latest research findings including Serious Case Reviews as it relates to child physical abuse
- Describe the signs and symptoms of child physical abuse • recognise the impact of child physical abuse on children’s development
- Discuss key elements to consider when assessing risk of physical abuse on children and young people
- Demonstrate direct work skills in working with children and their families where physical abuse and unexplained injuries may be an issue
- Recognise how the relationship based practice model of social work applies to child physical abuse
