Overview
This programme aims to give participants the opportunity to reflect upon, develop and maintain skills and attributes of professional curiosity in practice. It will consider the importance of healthy scepticism and respectful uncertainty, encouraging workers to fact check and cross reference as an evidence base; to attune to their professional instincts. Adopting this approaching requires practitioner to utilise effective observation, active listening and develop an appreciation of risk and how managing risk requires a fluid approach. In order to empower practitioners to offer this approach consistently maintaining professional curiosity and supporting the emotional resilience of all members of the core group is essential. Developing the confidence and ability to have reflective and relational conversations, to keep questioning and not detach from the importance of their role related responsibilities is crucial when managing risk and reviewing the family plan.Who is Developing Professional Curiosity aimed at?

On conclusion of the course, participants will have had the opportunity to recognise and value the role of healthy scepticism and professional curiosity in upholding our duty of care and helping to keep people with whom we come into contact, safe.
This will be achieved via consideration of:
- The role, function and task involved in completing a social work assessment
- Developing a clear understanding of what is and what is not evidence
- Using research to inform our healthy and respectful uncertainty – warning signs and risk indicators
- How to keep curious: Maintaining a practice energy essential for questioning beyond the obvious
- Adopting a relational approach to difficult conversation and challenge
- Professional assertiveness, using supervision, effective recording and making defensible decision making explicit on file.
