Overview
This course is interactive and practical requiring full participation of each delegate. Delegates will learn basic first aid skills within a friendly, supportive and informal, classroom environment at a pace to suit the group. This course meets the Ofsted requirements for Childminders and childcare workers and exceeds the requirements for Nannies and Au Pairs. Contact time will be12 hours over the course of two days (as a minimum). Certification is for three years and annual refreshers are recommended to maintain skills and provide valuable updates and changes accordingly.Who is Paediatric First Aid (2 days) Accredited aimed at?

On completion of this course, participants will:
- have a greater understanding of the potential injuries and illnesses that could affect and infants and children.
- have gained knowledge of the different accidents and illnesses that involve children
- have a raised awareness for identifying, minimising and responding appropriately to potential dangers, including accident planning and emergency plans
- understand the importance of immediate professional care and how to activate it
- Be able to carry out Basic Life Support skills on adults, infants and children and know the differences in these age groups. These to include CPR, Chest only CPR, Choking and the importance of AED units
- understand childhood illnesses and injuries and how to treat them
- understand what to do in the absence of parents in an emergency
- understand first aid regulations and first aid kits recommended for children as well as correct accident reporting
- recognise and act appropriately to the following: shock, anaphylactic shock, electric shock, bleeding, burns, scalds, fractures, head, neck and back injuries.
- recognise and act appropriately to the following: Poisoning, foreign bodies (ears, eyes and nose), eye injuries, bites, stings, and the effects of heat and cold.
- recognise and act appropriately to the following: Febrile convulsions and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of children with chronic medical conditions including meningitis, epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anaemia and diabetes.
