By the end of this course participants should:
- Understand the impact on families where there is long term disability and any associated health conditions
- Have an understanding of the perspective of the disabled child/young person
- Be able to recognise the perceived barriers to communicating with disabled children
- Understand of the concept of created vulnerability
- Understand potential indicators of abuse and neglect, including subtle signs across the diverse range of disabilities
- Have developed professional curiosity and competence in practice to understand the lived experience of children with disabilities beyond their medical diagnoses
- Have increased knowledge and confidence in seeking support in your role and an awareness of where to get that support
- Be aware of the importance of multi-agency working to support families where a child has a disability/complex health needs
