Overview
This 2 day training course is aimed at suitably experienced/senior practitioners in Adult Social Care Services, who may initiate and undertake safeguarding enquiries under S42 of the Care Act 2014 as part of their duties. The participants will be taken through the 4 stages of the Procedures in depth and will consider the key responsibilities, skills and knowledge required to competently perform as an Enquiry Officer. The course will be interactive, with time to apply theory and to explore the practical implication for the safeguarding function of local authority and partner agencies. A number of case studies are used to explore the learning in practice. Initial focus on clarifying what is and what is not appropriate for a safeguarding S42 Enquiry and then going through the subsequent decisions to develop a plan for the enquiry, including the skills of prioritising urgent action in response to a concern.Who is Section 42 – Safeguarding Adults Enquiries aimed at?

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-
- Understand the Lead Enquiry Officer’s roles & responsibilities, as set out in the Relevant Multi Agency Policy & Procedures.
- To gain awareness of good safeguarding practice as being based on a Making Safeguarding Personal, demonstrating a person centred and outcome focused approach.
- To clarify the key role of Mental Capacity Assessment and consent for any Safeguarding Enquiry that is undertaken.
- To develop an understanding of the need for a Risk Assessment, how this can be done and used to develop creative safeguarding plans
- To gain knowledge and skills in undertaking a formal disclosure interview as part of a series of conversations with the adult throughout the enquiry
- To be clear about how to write a report of a safeguarding enquiry report.
