Overview
The National Stroke Strategy when discussing raising awareness to improve quality of services states that members of the public and health and care staff are able to recognise and identify the main symptoms of stroke and know it needs to be treated as an emergency. This awareness course contributes to this aim in addition to exploring what can be done to improve the quality of life for people who have survived a stroke. It aims to provide participants working with people affected by stroke with a better understanding about stroke and how it affects their lives.Who is Stroke Awareness aimed at?

On completion of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify symptoms and some of the physical changes that may occur after stroke
- Describe how swallowing may be affected by stroke and identify strategies to support a person with swallowing difficulties.
- Discuss how a social care worker can support a person with Communication difficulties following a stroke.
- Explore the thoughts & emotions that may occur following a stroke and how best to support the person.
- Consider the impact of the family & carers
