We will consider how this may inform how you undertake a social work assessment and contribute to support plans. It will ensure that as a professional you will maintain a strengths base approach.

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:- 

 

  • Understand the different types of dementia and how they can progress. Have an awareness of the Impact of medication.
  • The impact of other co-existing conditions, specifically Learning Disabilities
  • Understanding the impact of dementia for the person and their family.
  • Impact of dementia on co-morbidities
  • How to carry out an assessment when someone may or may not have a diagnosis of dementia.
  • To consider how best to modify your communication to ensure that you can gather their wishes and feelings, with or with a Learning Disability.
  • Specific considerations when a person presents with early onset dementia of how to ensure we develop the plan to support their needs and aspirations.
  • Ensuring that you maintain a strengths based approach in that you: ensure your assessments and reports are written in clear language that a family would understand (ie not using medical language), ensure that we explore and understand how the person would like things to be.
