By the end of this course delegates will be able to:-

  • Explore what is meant by the term neurodiversity.
  • Explore the potential differences or difficulties autistic children may experience with social communication.  
  • Describe why some neurodivergent children may find it hard to consider hypothetical and abstract concepts and the possible impact of this.
  • Understand the process of sensory integration including the difference between hyper and hypo sensitivity
  • Explore the different types of situations that might generate anxiety and how to minimise this.
  • Become familiar with the strategies to facilitate concentration and focus.
  • Understand impulsiveness and how best to help children manage this.
  • Explore the importance and role of empathy and positive regard when working with neurodiverse children.
