By the end of this course delegates will be able to:-
- Explore what is meant by the term neurodiversity.
- Explore the potential differences or difficulties autistic children may experience with social communication.
- Describe why some neurodivergent children may find it hard to consider hypothetical and abstract concepts and the possible impact of this.
- Understand the process of sensory integration including the difference between hyper and hypo sensitivity
- Explore the different types of situations that might generate anxiety and how to minimise this.
- Become familiar with the strategies to facilitate concentration and focus.
- Understand impulsiveness and how best to help children manage this.
- Explore the importance and role of empathy and positive regard when working with neurodiverse children.
