Overview
In this one day course participants will be able to define the importance of play in child development, identify barriers to play for both adults and children, and recognise key information about a child before planning activities. They will understand the PACE approach for engaging non-verbal children, utilise activities from the training, describe "Intensive Interaction," and feel more confident in planning and conducting activities with children.Who is Using Play to Engage Non-Verbal Children aimed at?

By the end of the training participants should be able to:
- Define “play” and its importance, including the impact play has on child development.
- Identify what inhibits both adults and children in relation to play.
- Identify what they would like to know about a child before planning activities.
- Describe the PACE approach and consider how to incorporate this into play with non-verbal children.
- Utilise activities explored during the training with children known to them.
- Describe “Intensive Interaction”
- Feel more confident when planning and carrying out activities with children.
